Low-Tox Laundry Routine

Low-Tox Laundry Routine

Laundry products, although commonly used, can pose hidden dangers to our health and well-being. One particular culprit is the synthetic fragrances that are often infused in these products. These artificial scents, designed to make our clothes smell fresh and appealing, actually contain a cocktail of harmful chemicals. These chemicals can trigger allergies, irritate the respiratory system, and even disrupt hormone function. It’s crucial to be aware of the potential risks lurking in our laundry routine and take steps to minimize exposure.

That’s where the importance of using natural cleaning products comes into play. By opting for natural alternatives, we can avoid the toxic ingredients found in conventional laundry products. Natural cleaning products are formulated with plant-based ingredients and essential oils, harnessing the power of nature to effectively clean our clothes without compromising our health. They are gentle on the skin, kind to the environment, and offer a safer alternative for our families and pets. Making the switch to natural products is a simple yet impactful way to create a healthier home environment and protect ourselves from the harmful effects of synthetic fragrances and other hazardous chemicals.

HERE IS MY LOW-TOX LAUNDRY ROUTINE:

Pre-Treat:

To make your own spot treater using a 10oz roller, combine equal parts OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate and OnGuard laundry detergent. Add 10 drops of lemon essential oil to the mix, and then give it a good roll to agitate the ingredients. Now, when you encounter those pesky stains on your clothes, just roll the spot treater directly onto the affected area, allowing the powerful combination of plants to work their magic. After a short while, toss your garment into the wash as you normally would, and bid farewell to stubborn stains with ease. This simple, homemade spot treater is a game-changer in your laundry routine, helping you keep your clothes looking their best effortlessly.

Washer:

First, sprinkle about half a cup of baking soda into the drum of the machine, which will naturally freshen and deodorize your clothes. Then, pour about half a cup of citrus-infused white vinegar into the fabric softener dispenser, acting as a natural fabric conditioner that helps remove built-up residue. Lastly, add the recommended amount of OnGuard laundry detergent to the detergent compartment, harnessing its powerful cleaning properties. With this trifecta, your washing machine will be revitalized and your clothes will be looking and smelling so fresh. In addition, you can add 5-10 drops of essential oils into the detergent compartment with the OnGuard laundry detergent to boost the scent.

Dryer:

To use wool dryer balls in your dryer, simply toss them in with your wet laundry. As the dryer spins, the balls work their magic by creating space between your clothes, allowing air to circulate more efficiently. This leads to shorter drying times and reduced wrinkles, all while being an eco-friendly alternative to dryer sheets. If you want your clothes to smell nice without using any yucky chemicals, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the dryer balls before each cycle. If you do so, be sure to rub the essential oils into the dryer balls to avoid getting oil stains on your clothes. I do this by placing 5-10 drops on one ball and use another one to rub it in. Not only will your laundry come out fluffy and soft, but it will also be infused with a delightful scent that lingers.
